Domain HostingIt is vital to choose a good company to host your website. Commercial hosting need not be expensive as the market is very competitive. Free hosting is sometimes available, but this usually ties you down in some way so that you are locked into one provider's services even if you need more space in the future.
Often you will find a provider who will register your domain for you and host it as well, but sometimes these deals restrict you to using the same services in the future and you may incur an extra charge if you want to transfer away. Don't be tempted to use your internet service provider's free web space and just have your domain name pointing or re-directing to it, as the search engines will not spider your site correctly and you may not even get a listing! Far better to host with a commercial operator who will normally offer faster connectivity and better customer service. A note of caution here though, as if a host company also hosts 'undesirable' sites this may get you banned by a search engine, as you may share a similar IP address. In the early life of a new website it is probably not necessary to have a lot of space or bandwidth, as very often it will be possible to upgrade to a higher spec later. After all, if your site grows and gets more visitors, you will not mind paying a little more as you will, hopefully, be covering your costs with increased revenue. I always prefer a hosting service that has their servers in the country where most of my visitors are, as this will give greater reliability and faster connectivity. Look for a company that offers the support you will need and forget any that do not even give a phone number. If your site goes down at some time, you will want to get it back as soon as possible.
